The 2025 Indianapolis 500's Fast Friday practice session took a dramatic turn when 20 year old Chip Ganassi Racing driver Kyffin Simpson experienced a harrowing crash exiting Turn 4. Simpson's No. 8 Honda spun and collided with the SAFER Barrier, launching the car into the air before it landed on its side and came to rest at the entrance of pit road.
Despite the severity of the incident, Simpson emerged unscathed and communicated over the radio, "Yeah I'm okay... But man, that was loose." He was promptly evaluated and released from the infield care center.
The crash occurred approximately 50 minutes into the session, which featured elevated turbo boost levels to simulate qualifying conditions, pushing lap speeds beyond 230 mph. Simpson was on his first full speed lap of the day when the incident happened.
This marks the first significant crash of the 2025 Indy 500 practice week. Simpson, in his second year at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, has shown promising speed throughout the season, including top-10 qualifying performances at recent events.
